The Dead man's soul is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series, first appearing in Dragon Quest X. This variant of the Firespirit is a vile wandering spirit that specialises in casting instant death spells.

Characteristics[edit]

Dead man's souls are phantasms made of ghastly white flames with a cyan tinge, their sorrowful visages having solid red eyes and a purple maw. In battle, they have the ability to send adventurers to the hereafter with their incantations, but they also have a tendency to become confused and waste their turns, like the rest of their spectral kin. According to their monster info in X, dead man's souls like to say that they're the ones that taught Frostburns how to cast death magic, but they have a disingenuous nature and often tell lies.

Appearances[edit]

Dragon Quest X[edit]

Dead man's souls began appearing in Version 3.0 of the game. They can cast Thwack, but will also waste their turns when they can't make up their minds. When the souls become enraged, they are able to cast Kathwack.

Dragon Quest Rivals[edit]

Dead man's soul appeared in the standard card pack as a normal card common to all leaders.

Dragon Quest Tact[edit]

Dead man's soul appears as a B-rank monster of the Undead family during the second part of the limited Behold the Ultimate Automaton! Battle the Mindini Hunter! event. It can be scouted in Chapter 2, Episode 2 of the event quests and can be fully awakened by repeating the quest at any difficulty. The dead man's soul can participate in the Kisser's Battle Road as a party member.
