Belial is a major antagonist from Dragon Quest II and recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series.
He is a more powerful version of the archdemon and the last in a trio of bosses the Luminaries must face as they climb Hargon's tower. Later games would use the monster as a species instead of a specific individual, similar to his fellow cultist Pazuzu.
Characteristics[edit]
Belial is a large yellow demon carrying a purple pitchfork. He has a large snout, and blue wings, the latter of which he uses to fly.
In the HD-2D Remake of II, Belial is a battle-hungry demon who enjoys receiving punishment as much as he does giving it. He views the Scions of Erdrick as worthy opponents to him, and once they best him, he acknowledges their efforts and hopes for them to get stronger so that he can have a better battle with them. However, Belial's respect towards both them and Dream-Whisperer is a way of establishing his ego and might as well as his lust for battle over them. He wastes no time killing a midnight manguini and a goyling for disobeying his and Hargon's commands to recruit the Dragonlord's great-grandson, but often refrains from directly insulting his opponents.
Belial regards himself as superior to his fellow Champions, and generally has no qualms snitching them out, particularly Mariella whom he dislikes for her chaotic and arrogant nature. He tells the Scions of Erdrick of her invasion of the mermaid realm and even warns them about her unscrupulous nature.
Appearances[edit]
Dragon Quest II: Luminaries of the Legendary Line[edit]
Dragon Quest II HD-2D Remake[edit]
Belial's role in the HD-2D Remake of his debut is expanded upon, making him a major antagonist. He is one of Hargon's Champions along with Atlas, Mariella, and Pazuzu, and personally lead the seige on Castle Moonbrooke. He invades the Faerie Palace, and tries to kill Dream-Whisperer, but he is defeated and teleports away, vowing that his next battle with the Scions of Erdrick would be more worthy.
