Oomphle is a support spell in the Dragon Quest series introduced in Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker. It is a sister spell to Oomph, and its effect varies depending on the game:

  • In the Monsters: Joker subseries, it raises attack by one stage for the entire party.
  • In Dragon Quest XI, it raises attack by two stages for one character.

Localization History

The Japanese spell Baikiruto has been used as the name for Oomph throughout the series history. The Monsters: Joker series of games introduced the Baixion spell, which would raise the attack of the entire party by one stage. However, starting with X, Baixion became a single-target spell that would raise a target's attack by one stage, while the old spell Baikiruto would raise a character's attack by two stages. In the English localization of Joker, Oomphle was used as the multitarget spell, while Oomph was kept as the single-target spell. In XI, Oomph was used for the spell Baixion, while Oomphle would now be used for Baikiruto. Tact complicated this further by using the name Partyboost for Baixion, while Oomph was used for Baikiruto once again.
