The Pyramid is a dungeon in Dragon Quest III. It is located in the desert north of Isis. It is the most unique dungeon in the game and contains the Magic Key, but it is guarded by some of the most clever traps in the series.

Appearances[edit]

Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation[edit]

The Pyramid is the most creative dungeon in Dragon Quest III as it is filled with traps, puzzles, and special limitations. It also has a completely unique soundtrack, though the remakes of the game would incorporate it in both Asham's night theme and the a floor of the Cloudsgate Citadel which uses 2F of the Pyramid.

Sealed magic[edit]

Spells are nullified in the basement of the Pyramid, making the room a harsh punishment for those who fall through the pitfalls on the first floor. This includes spells cast in battle as well as from the map screen, as well as those cast by monsters. Because the A.I introduced in the Cell phone version does not recognize the programming tag in the area, party members will attempt to cast spells until their tactics are changed or the player takes manual control.

Third floor puzzle[edit]

The button puzzle within the Pyramid must be completed in order to retrieve the magic key. A hint on how to solve it is sung by the children in the throne room of Isis castle. The buttons must be pressed in the correct order to receive the key.

Golden Claws[edit]

The golden claws weapon is hidden in a tomb in B2F of the Pyramid. B2F is only accessible via a hidden staircase which can be found by searching a specific tile in B1F. After collecting the claws, the party will encounter a battle at every step until they exit the Pyramid. This makes it the most complex weapon to acquire in the game. Although it is accessible when the party first visits the Pyramid, it is unlikely that the party have the strength to retrieve it and escape without dying until later in the game. The reward is worth the trial by fire, however, as the golden claws provide a substantial attack boost over the iron claws and knuckledusters.

Usage of the Pyramid in another area[edit]

Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake[edit]

The Pyramid is now guarded by the Ripper of the Rift and a Kylla on the order os Baramos to prevent the Hero from optaining the magic key. There is an imp disguised as a little girl on the third floor who will give false hints to solving the Pyramid's puzzles.

The curse of the golden claws now triggers a fight every few steps instead of continuously, party members can still use skills in battle despite magic being voided, and the artificial intelligence is smart enough to avoid wasting turns trying to cast spells, reducing the difficulty considerably. On the other hand the claws will be returned to their resting place should the party fall in battle, forcing the player to brave the tomb all over again.
