Servant of Darkness

From Dragon Quest Wiki
(Redirected from Servant of darkness)

The Servant of Darkness is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series, first appearing in Dragon Quest VIII.

It is a powerful, quadruple-armed undead warrior that serves a Demon Lord.

Characteristics[edit]

Servants of darkness are formerly powerful warriors that have been brought back as skeletons to serve evil. They have pitch-black bones and have two sets of arms, each wielding a deadly weapon. In their lower arms, they wield a pair of curved sabres, in their upper right arm a hand axe, and in their upper left arm a spiked club. The servants don black armour decorated with gold and a helmet with a tall pair of curved horns. They are able to perform violent slashing attacks with their weapons and breathe out intense flames, as well as freezing their foes solid with powerful ice magic. According to their bestiary description in X, the Servants of darkness work as chefs when they're off-duty, switching their weapons to kitchen knives.

A Servant of darkness appears as a miniboss as the party escapes from the Black Citadel, accompanied by a pair of Dancing flames. Although it is able to resist many attacks, its HP is on par with most of the monsters encountered in the same dungeon. After dispatching the trio, the party can find a stone monument that will fully restore their HP and MP.

Servants of darkness can be encountered as normal enemies in the second bonus dungeon, the Heavenly Dais. They have more HP than the one encountered at the Black Citadel, but their Defence and Agility is lower.

Dragon Quest X[edit]

Servants of darkness appear as normal enemies from 6.2 onward, being encountered in the Twilight of King Zedra, and are members of the Undead family. They are still able to perform violent slashing attacks in the form of Robochop and cast Kacrack, while their Fire Breath has been upgraded to Scorch.
