Etymology[edit]

  • Palooka is a term used to refer to incompetent boxers and is infrequently used as an alternative insult to oaf, dolt, idiot, etc. The origin of the term is unknown, but it first appeared in printed media in the 1920's by way of the Joe Palooka comic strip authored by Ham Fisher.
