The Fortress of Fear is a dungeon in Dragon Quest XI and the lair of Mordegon, the Lord of Shadows. It is a castle that floats in the skies of Erdrea and is surrounded by an oppressive barrier of darkness.

The castle is designed with a series of obstacles and puzzles intended to prevent anyone from reaching further into its depths, while the halls and exterior are guarded by powerful monsters.

The Fortress of Fear becomes Mordegon's base of operations after the destruction of Yggdrasil at the end of the first act, floating in the center of Erdrea where the World Tree once grew. The party is only able to enter the Fortress by flying there on Cetacea's back and using the newly forged Sword of Light to break through the barrier of darkness.
