Nintendo is a Japanese corporation; and is the creator of the main platforms for the Dragon Quest series up to and including Dragon Quest VI. With Dragon Quest VII, Sony PlayStation became the main platform. However, Dragon Quest games continued to be released for Nintendo handheld platforms, and Dragon Quest X is being developed for the Nintendo Wii.

Nintendo of America, a subsidiary of Nintendo, was the publisher of the NES version of the first game in North America, Dragon Quest, as well as the publisher of Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies and Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation outside Japan.
