"You appear to be something of a thug…
And though you may not realize it, your thuggishness is a worry and an inconvenience to all around you…
Have you ever stopped to consider the effect you have on others…?
Even you had done so, your lack of empathy would probably lead you to assume that they think as you do…
But this is not so… We all think and feel differently… To assume that we do not is a grave error…
Sadly, you have yet to understand this…
Perhaps you think that to attribute your thoughts to others is to exercise empathy…? It is not…
Your friends almost certainly worry about you, but they do not mention it for fear of a violent reaction…
Carry on as you are, and before long, you will have no friends at all…
Please… Try to yield a little to others… To be considerate… To be…caring…
It may be too late for you to change… But you must try… Convince at least one person to have faith in you…
And hold onto that person with all of your considerable might…"

In the Dragon Quest III remakes, thug is a personality that improves strength growth, but reduces every other attribute growth.
At the start of the game, the Hero becomes a thug by receiving the final test of character in the desert. The hero must tell Dickie to leave the his brother behind without giving him the canteen and head back to town alone.
Other party members have a chance to be a thug when talent scouted at Patty's Party Planning Place, with the exception of mages and priests, depending on their stat bonuses.
An existing character becomes a thug temporarily by wearing the tough guy tattoo accessory.
