Editing List of teleportals in Dragon Quest Monsters

Throughout the course of {{DQM}} the player, as [[Terry]], must journey from the kingdom of [[GreatTree]] to mystic worlds via [[Teleportal|Travelers' Gates]] (Travel Gates / Teleportals) in order to acquire monsters powerful enough to help him succeed in the Starry Night Tournament. The following is a list of these Travelers' Gates by name and gives the number of floors they have, the requirements for accessing them, and a description of the gate's contents.

There are three main categories of Traveler's Gates: Main Traveler's Gates (all found within the Chamber of Traveler's Gates), Hidden Traveler's Gates (found throughout the kingdom, accessed through certain conditions), and Family Traveler's Gates (containing only monsters of a specific family, all only available post-game). Note that only three of the main Traveler's Gates are required to clear within the story; all the others are optional.

Each of the Traveler's Gates have randomized floors, a set number of floors, and a unique set of encountered monsters. Within each floor is a hole that leads to the next floor. It is possible to randomly access a special room (substituting for a randomized area for that floor number) such as a church, a shop, an arena, a treasure room, and a maze (consisting of tree mazes and rotating tile mazes). Aside from the maze areas, Terry can record his journal in these special rooms. Otherwise, Terry must use a BookMark to record his journal within a Traveler's Gate.

At the bottom of each Traveler's Gate is the boss room (most of which are based on elements in the mainstream Dragon Quest games). To clear the Traveler's Gate, Terry must defeat the boss monster in battle. Once Terry does so, the gate will be cleared (indicated based on the portal, which will stop spinning in the original and [[Sony PlayStation|PS1]] remake, and will change from a red to blue aura in the [[Nintendo 3DS]] remake). In the original and PS1 remake, there are three types of boss monsters: those that join Terry unconditionally, those that join Terry if given enough meat (typically 4-5 Sirloins), and those that do not join Terry at all. In the 3DS remake, all Traveler's Gate bosses (including post-game bosses) will join Terry (with no option to refuse the request) with two exceptions: [[Hacksaurus]] and [[Dhuran]]. To reach the boss in the original and PS1 remake, Terry must approach the boss, usually by clear a puzzle; in the 3DS remake, the boss will always engage Terry as soon as he arrives in the boss room.

==Main Gates==
The Travelers' Gates primarily visited throughout the normal course of the game. The monsters get progressively stronger with each gate, and most of the bosses encountered at the beginning will want to join Terry after being defeated. While most new gates open with wins at the Monster Arena, some gates and even rank battles cannot be accessed until a certain gate is completed. These three story-central gates are those of Beginning, Anger, and Reflection. Only these three gates are mandatory for the completion of the storyline; the others, while highly recommended, are optional. The two former monster masters in the [[Arena]] will give Terry descriptions of the two most recently unlocked main gates, while the jester in the throne room (the one guarding the King's exit door to the right of the throne) will give Terry recorded descriptions of the bosses.

The two {{NPC}}'s in the arena who give Terry information on the main Traveler's Gates are said to have given up on their Monster Master careers after returning from the Gate of Reflection. When spoken to after clearing S Class, each of them will only give Terry partial information on the Gate of Reflection and will express extreme discomfort in the process, indicating that the experience left them traumatized.

The Room of Reflection, as well as the boss battles, are references to the battle within [[Cloudsgate Citadel]] in {{DQ6}}. Note that two battles occur prior to the one with [[Dhuran|Durran]]: either one (in the 3DS remake) or two (in the original and PS1 remake) Servants (whose attacks are identical to the one from the Gate of Temptation), and a "TERRY?" monster (which is really the adult version of Terry). Note that if the player loses against either Terry or Durran, he will not be required to reengage the preceding boss battles when reattempting the Gate of Reflection. In the 3DS remake, the battle theme with Dhuran will be ''Ultimate True Evil'', which is used during final boss battles in the ''Monster'' series. Note that the Servants can be recruited if given enough meat, and can be either gender.

After Durran is defeated, adult Terry (whose identity is finally confirmed at this point) will approach his younger self and thank him for saving him, as well as apologizing for insulting him earlier in the Gate of Anger. Adult Terry will give young Terry the following advice: do not pursue power as it will consume and change him for the worst, and protect [[Milly|his sister]] at all costs. Afterwards, he will be whisked away by Warubou (in the original) or teleport himself away (in the PS1 and 3DS remakes). Soon afterwards, younger Terry will be returned to GreatTree by Watabou. Back in the throne room, the King will express disappointment that Terry did not find anything out about the tournament, but will nevertheless be unfazed as he has complete confidence in Terry.

==Hidden Gates==
Gates that can essentially be accessed at any time, barring a few that require progression through the story before they can be accessed. The monsters within these gates are usually more powerful than those the player would normally encounter if they take the time to access them instead of venturing through the main gates and beating rank battles. These gates have floors much smaller and easier to navigate than the main Traveler's Gates. It is recommended that the player use hidden gates to look for foreign masters, as the simpler mechanics of these floors allow for foreign master appearances to be easier to predict. The jester in the throne room will give Terry descriptions of the bosses in the hidden gates if he says "yes" to the first two prompts and "no" to the third one.
